Our client  is currently recruiting for a full time Estimator for a construction company that specializes in Heavy Civil, underground works.
 
Ultimately, as an Estimator, working in partnership with their existing team and under the general direction of the owners, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate project estimation & tendering for a variety of municipal and industrial / commercial / institutional projects, reviewing drawings, understanding design intent, identifying challenges, performing quantity and earthworks take-off’s / digital terrain modelling, and providing a holistic project management approach including subtrade and supplier management, project scheduling, cost analysis and preparing monthly progress quantities for client invoicing.
 
To represent the company in a professional manner, the ideal candidate will possess and build on existing skills of proactivity, attention to detail, organization, communication, negotiation and resolution skills. Noting the specialized nature of their business, while all applicants will be considered, preference will given to those with previous heavy civil / underground experience.
 
Other Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Estimating Related:
  1. Recruiting new work by reviewing various industry publications, electronic plans rooms, etc.
  2. Reviewing plans & specifications to determine the scope of work and to define project
  3. requirements
  4. Outlining and proactively communicating project requirements and timelines
  5. Soliciting quotations and tendering contracts from consultants, sub-trades & suppliers
  6. Preparing quantity take-offs for all labour, equipment, materials and subcontractors
 
Required Experience & Skills:
  1. Essential knowledge of commercial & heavy civil construction
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  3. Proficiency in all MS Office Applications and AutoCAD
  4. Ability to read and understand consultants plans
  5. Strong work ethic, highly motivated and enjoys a challenge
  6. Proactivity, initiative and ability to self-direct work with little supervision
  7. Willing and able to learn new skills and concepts quickly
  8. Confident, positive & outgoing personality
  9. Able to maintain a professional demeanour in challenging situations
  10. Enjoys a multi-faceted and dynamic work environment
  11. Able to prioritize and be flexible, while maintaining efficiency
 
Preferred Experience & Skills:
  1. Years of experience estimating Heavy Civil Underground  construction projects of various budget levels
  2. Strong analytical skills and construction detailing practices
  3. Ability to work effectively with clients and all stakeholders for successful project completion
  4. Comfort and experience working with specialized estimating & project management software
  5. Working knowledge of current provincial & municipal design standards, OPSD’s etc.
