Our client, a well-established law firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and organized legal professional looking to contribute to a collaborative and professional environment. The Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to lawyers and other members of the legal team. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple priorities, working with confidential information, and ensuring that files and deadlines are handled accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to one or more lawyers
- Prepare, format, proofread, and revise legal correspondence and documentation
- Manage and maintain electronic and physical client files
- Prepare and organize documents, forms, and court materials as required
- Manage calendars, appointments, meetings, and deadlines
- Coordinate meetings, examinations, discoveries, and other legal proceedings
- Communicate professionally with clients, lawyers, courts, opposing counsel, and other external parties
- Assist with document production, filing, and service requirements
- Conduct basic legal and administrative research as required
- Process correspondence, emails, and incoming/outgoing documentation
- Assist with billing, time entry, accounts, and other administrative tasks
- Ensure important deadlines and follow-ups are tracked and completed
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information appropriately
- Provide general administrative support to the legal team as needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant, Legal Clerk, Law Clerk, or in a similar legal support role
- Legal office or law firm experience is preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple files and deadlines
- Professional and client-focused approach
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Experience with legal practice management or document management software is an asset
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team
