You will enhance, build, and manage safety programs on the manufacturing floor. You will ensure strict compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and handle all Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims administration. This is a hands-on position requiring a high percentage of time to be spent on the manufacturing floor, interacting with facility personnel.

What you'll do
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Support and enforce compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Labour requirements, WSIB obligations, and internal Health and Safety policies.
  • Manufacturing Floor Safety: Maintain a strong floor presence to identify hazards, observe work practices, coach employees and supervisors, and ensure safety expectations are followed.
  • Safety Program Support: Assist with the development, implementation, and improvement of plant Health and Safety programs, procedures, and initiatives to reduce injuries and improve safety performance.
  • Incident Management: Work with the Production team to investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure completion.
  • WSIB and Return to Work: Manage WSIB claims administration, including Form 7 reporting, injury tracking, modified duties, and coordination of the Return-to-Work program.
  • JHSC Support: Coordinate JHSC meetings, workplace inspections, recommendations, and corrective action follow-up to ensure timely resolution of concerns.
  • Workplace Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections of manufacturing areas, equipment, processes, and work practices to identify hazards, verify compliance, and support corrective actions.
  • Training: Work with the Training and Development Manager to ensure required Health and Safety training is current. Coach employees, supervisors, and managers on safe work practices, hazard recognition, PPE, LOTO, and other safety requirements.
  • PPE and Safe Work Practices: Monitor and enforce the proper use of CSA-approved PPE, safe work procedures, and plant safety rules.
  • Lockout/Tagout and High-Risk Activities: Support and oversee compliance with LOTO procedures and other high-risk activities, including machine maintenance, confined space, working at heights, and contractor work where applicable.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Support: Coordinate fire drills, spill response training, and emergency preparedness activities. Support recycling, spill prevention, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Safety Reporting and Trends: Track safety concerns, inspection findings, incidents, corrective actions, and training gaps. Provide updates and recommendations to management on safety performance and areas requiring attention.
