Safety Attendant - Saint John, NB
Our client, in the Saint John area is looking for motivated individuals to join their teams as Safety Attendants. They are an industrial rescue training and service provider. They manage numerous contracts providing emergency response and rescue services, as well as support personnel and program support throughout the Maritimes.
A safety attendant (hole watch) is a person that is designated to monitor the activities inside a confined space to ensure the worker and the environment are safe.
You must be reliable – attendance is extremely important for this job, if the safety attendants are not there, the work cannot be done
Please note that this job requires a half day of unpaid training before you start work.
What we offer
• $20 an hour
• 40 to 60 hours of work per week
• 10 to 16 hour shifts
• Monday to Friday (weekends are needed occasionally)
• Day shift and Night shift
• Overtime pay
• On-site training (unpaid)
• Work starts in October
What you do
• Monitor the activities inside a confined space
• You will be stationed outside the entry of the confined space whenever work is being performed inside the space
• Monitor for any signs of hazards
• Watch if the entrants are being affected by atmospheric conditions that would warrant initiating a rescue
• Responsible for the entry log of checking people in and out of the space
• Responsible for the Confined Space Code of Practice (entry permit)
• Radio Communications
• Working at heights
• Show up on time and ready to work – attendance is extremely important
• Other duties as required
Who you are
• You live in the Saint John area: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
• You must have a High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to speak and read English fluently
• Must have a clean criminal record
• Must be reliable – attendance is extremely important for this job, if the safety attendants are not there, the work cannot be done
• Comfortable working in ALL weather conditions
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time and staying alert)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, always changing environment
• Ability to work as a member of a team
